Justin Turner has been named NL Rookie of the Month for May. He is the first Met to win the award since it was created in 2001.

"I mean it’s neat to say I did it and whatever, but I’m just gonna try to keep getting better," Turner said. "Everyone wants to have success [earlier in their careers]. I just tried to come up here and be ready every day I’m in the lineup. I caught a break and got an opportunity. Fortunately for me I’ve been having success."

Turner set a franchise rookie record by driving in runs in seven straight games last month, topping Ron Swoboda's old mark. After a two-game drought, Turner then had an RBI in six straight games.

By driving in runs in 13 games in a 15-game stretch, he became the first rookie to do so since 1930, and the third in major league history.

"I think when there’s guys on base or situational hitting it’s a little easier to form a plan and no what you want to do," Turner said. "I haven’t looked at my numbers with no one on, but I assume they’re horrible."

Turner hit .325 with one homer and 20 RBIs in May.

For the record, Turner is batting .414 with runners in scoring position and .245 with the bases empty.
