Collins 'amazed' by Beltran's durability

Carlos Beltran -- the same guy that was supposed to get two out of every five days off when the season started to rest his legs -- has played in 56 of the Mets’ first 58 games in 2011 and is on pace to play 156 of 162.

“I’m amazed,” Terry Collins said. “But what I’m most amazed at is his professionalism. I asked him this week, let’s talk about a day off, and he said ‘David [Wright]’s out, Ike [Davis]’s out. I need to be in the lineup.’ And if that’s not a guy who’s willing to sacrifice himself for the team, I haven’t been around somebody [that has].”

“I have all the trust in Carlos playing right field. I’m not worried about his legs. This guy, as much as he’s played, if his legs were an issue, they’d have been bothering him by now with all the games he’s played.”
