Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter began his chemotherapy in pill form on Saturday, and will begin radiation treatment on Tuesday as previously scheduled, his daughter Kimmy Bloemers confirmed in a journal entry posted on a private family website.

“The doctors have told dad how it is extremely important that he needs to exercise everyday,” Bloemers wrote. “Dad enjoys working out; however, this medicine makes him very tired. Even though it is very challenging to get motivated, dad is a gamer and does something active everyday. He swims during the day and takes a nice walk with my mom every night. He ALWAYS feels good after each activity. The mornings are the hardest part of the day. The tumors and medication force dad to slow down and it just isn't easy for a guy who likes to be active and busy. He started his chemo Saturday (in a pill form) so his body is adjusting to this new medication.”

The 57-year-old Carter is currently in a battle with inoperable Stage 4 glioblastoma.
