WHAT IT MEANS: It appears likely that the Mets are going to get their superstar leadoff man back.
Jose Reyes played six innings, went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored -- ran hard out of the box -- and made one play at shortstop for Class A Brooklyn on Monday afternoon at MCU Park.
AT THE PLATE: Reyes led off the game by lining out to center. In the third inning, he grounded out to second, but hustled out of the box, showing no lingering effects of the left hamstring strain that’s kept him out and on the disabled list since July 3. Reyes doubled off the center-field wall leading off the sixth and coasted into second. He later advanced to third and scored on a bloop single to left.
IN THE FIELD: Reyes only had one chance in the field -- a grounder which came in the third inning -- and he handled it flawlessly.
WHAT'S NEXT: Reyes could rejoin the Mets on Tuesday night when they take on the Cardinals at Citi Field.
