Terry Collins hinted that Jose Reyes may get a day off on Sunday, when the Mets play a day game after a night game in Florida. Team reports indicate temperatures will be in the low-90s and Collins is concerned about Reyes' ability to hold up in the heat.
"That day … is one that concerns me," Collins said before the scheduled first pitch of Wednesday's Cardinals-Mets game.
Reyes reported no pain after playing a full nine innings and collecting two hits on Tuesday, his first game back after missing the last 12 with a strained left hamstring.
"He told me today he felt great again," Collins said. "So we'll assess it every night, every day."
Reyes leads the majors with a .355 average, 44 multi-hit games and 15 triples. He leads the NL with 126 and is second in the majors with 30 stolen bases. He is a free agent at the end of the season. Though ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Reyes will not be dealt before the trade deadline.
