Jerry Manuel announced two-thirds of his rotation for this week's Phillies series. We know Hisanori Takahashi will get the nod on Wednesday and Mike Pelfrey will throw Thursday with both starters going on regular rest.
Manuel said he's still deciding between Raul Valdes and R.A. Dickey for Tuesday's start. Dickey allowed two runs in six innings in a 5-3 loss on Wednesday in Washington.
Valdes relieved John Maine in the first inning of Thursday's game, striking out six in five innings to earn the win in the Mets' 10-7 road victory over the Nats.
"There will probably be a matchup that I'll look at to determine it," Manuel said of deciding between Valdes and the knuckleballer Dickey.
"When a guy rescues you in the first inning ... you'd like to reward him. But you know, I might not want to reward him against the Phillies," the manager said with a laugh, in reference to Valdes.
"Guys that we have brought in, Takahashi and Dickey, have given us good starts," Manuel said. "If Pelfrey and Johan [Santana] can continue to do what they do, we might be able to put together a good rotation."
