Former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand speaks with David Wright before Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field. LeGrand was paralyzed during a kickoff return in October 2010.
Former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand -- who was paralyzed during a kickoff return in October 2010 -- visited the Mets at Citi Field on Saturday and watched batting practice from the field.
"I played baseball just as long as I played football," LeGrand told reporters. "I started when I was five years old. I gave it up my freshman year in high school. Once Rutgers offered me for football, I just focused on football. I was a center fielder. My team almost made it to Williamsport (for the Little League World Series). We almost made it when I was 10 or 12 years old. Still we talk about it all the time. It still bugs us.”
According to the Mets, a foundation has been established for the LeGrand family to pay for housing and living expenses. Click here.
