WHAT IT MEANS: Cliff Lee limited the Mets to three hits over seven scoreless innings and the not-so-Amazin's lost for the 16th time in 21 games. The latest defeat dropped the Mets seven games under .500 for the first time since April 21.
The 10-0 loss was the second-most lopsided suffered by the Mets this season. They lost to the Phillies 11-0 on April 7.
GEE WHILLICKERS: Dillon Gee -- pitching on standard rest, but moved up a day in the rotation because Jon Niese tweaked his back last week in San Diego -- was charged with a career-high eight runs. The final two runs scored after Gee left the bases loaded for reliever Ryota Igarashi. Gee's previous career high had been six runs surrendered, against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 7.
Gee also issued six walks (albeit one intentional), matching a career high (also vs. Oakland on June 21). He loaded the bases on walks in the fourth, then walked John Mayberry Jr. on four pitches to force in a run and was pulled.
FALLEN ANGEL: Jason Pridie replaced Angel Pagan in center field for the bottom of the fifth. A half-inning earlier, Pagan had been delayed getting to the plate to bat. Pagan was suffering from a stomach virus, the Mets announced.
MOUNTING FRUSTRATION: David Wright, who does not often jaw with umpires, barked vociferously at plate umpire Mike DiMuro after being called out on strikes in the sixth.
WHAT'S NEXT: Niese (11-10, 4.05 ERA), a day delayed, starts opposite Phillies right-hander Vance Worley (8-1, 2.76) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. A loss would drop the Mets to eight games under .500, matching their season low-water mark. They opened the season 5-13.
