Herrera to join Mets in DC

Left-hander Danny Herrera, acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he was pitching in Triple-A, is due to join the Mets on Friday in Washington.

• When Miguel Batista represents the Mets on Thursday night, it will be the 10th major league team for which he has played. He is one of three active players to appear for 10 or more teams, joining Octavio Dotel (12) and Bruce Chen (10).

Batista's start also will snap a franchise-record string of 106 straight games in which the Mets exclusively used five starting pitchers.

Josh Satin, the newly promoted infielder capable of playing first, second and third, mostly will watch from the bench. Terry Collins said he is committed to regularly playing Nick Evans at first base down the stretch while second and third base obviously are occupied.

"I explained to him that I made a little bit of a commitment to Nick," Collins said. "... He understood. I just told him I was very, very, very proud of the fact that he's here. I think it's one of the great stories in our game in this organization for a guy who was pretty much maligned because people didn't like his swing, people didn't like that he didn't really have a position. And all he's done is battled and battled and battled."

• The Mets will wear the blue "Los Mets" uniforms on Thursday night that should become part of the regular rotation, minus the Los, in 2013.
