WHAT IT MEANS: The Mets dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Atlanta Braves and slipped to three games under .500. Atlanta trimmed its magic number to eliminate the Mets from wild-card contention to six. The Mets were eliminated from division-title contention after the Game 1 loss.

OH GEE: Dillon Gee was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out six and hitting a batter in six-plus innings. The final run scored on a Chipper Jones sacrifice fly against Daniel Herrera, which was charged to Gee.

"This inconsistency right now is kind of killing me," Gee said. "At least I am having some good ones."

HIT PARADE: Jose Reyes had hits in both games of the doubleheader to up his hitting streak to 11 games. Reyes’ average now stands at a National League-best .335, six points better than Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, who went 0-for-4 to dip to .329. The Mets have never had a league batting champion.

Reyes scored the Mets’ lone run, when he opened the bottom of the first with a single, advanced on Justin Turner’s single and a flyout, and scored on Jason Bay’s sacrifice fly.

WELCOME BACK: Valentino Pascucci singled as a pinch-hitter in the eighth off Atlanta’s Eric O’Flaherty. It was Pascucci’s first major league plate appearance since Oct. 3, 2004 for the Montreal Expos at Shea Stadium. Pascucci singled off the Mets' Heath Bell in his final at-bat of that game, which was the final game in the existence of the Expos.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Mets welcome the Chicago Cubs for a weekend series. Mike Pelfrey (7-11, 4.68 ERA) opposes right-hander Casey Coleman (2-7, 6.61) in Friday’s 7:10 p.m. opener.
