WHAT IT MEANS: The mutts in the stands could've played better defense than the Mets on the field.

With 332 dogs in attendance at Citi Field on Saturday afternoon as part of the team's "Bark in the Park" event, the Mets committed a season-high four errors, blew a one-run ninth-inning lead and fell to the reeling Cubs, 5-4. In the process, they dropped three games below .500 (71-74).

EVERY BAY HAS HIS DAY: Jason Bay extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bay gave the Mets the lead with a two-out, two-run single in the eighth, but Bobby Parnell gave up a two-out, two-run single in the ninth to Aramis Ramirez, which proved to be the difference.

In his last 12 games, Bay has driven in 13 runs.

JOS-E: Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to a season-high and team-high tying 13 games with an eighth-inning RBI double that gave the Mets their first run.

But on Saturday afternoon, Reyes forgot to bring his glove, committing a pair of errors that led directly to Chicago's first two runs. The 28-year-old shortstop has now committed a career-high tying 18 errors this season. Reyes also amassed 18 miscues in 2005 -- granted that was in 161 games, or 51 more than he’s played in 2011.

David Wright also had two errors as well, including a crucial one in the ninth, which led to the Mets blowing their second straight save situation as a team.

TOO BAD: Chris Capuano deserved a better fate on Saturday afternoon.

The veteran southpaw allowed just two runs (one earned) and five hits over seven effective innings, but had to settle for a no-decision. He walked one and struck out six.

UP NEXT: An emotional evening for the Mets, who finish off their three-game set with Chicago on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The 8:10 p.m. game will air on ESPN. Miguel Batista (4-2, 3.92) opposes Matt Garza (8-10, 3.52).
