Josh Thole expects a big crowd Thursday in St. Louis, for the series finale at Busch Stadium, although his thoughts also will be elsewhere.

Thole’s wife Kathryn is visiting the catcher’s in-laws in Owego, N.Y., near Binghamton, where the Mets’ Double-A team is located. The area has been ravaged by flooding. Dillon Gee donated gallons of water to bring. Jason Bay and Tim Byrdak donated clothes.

Thole also is planning an auction of baseball memorabilia.

“They have nothing,” Thole said about members of the greater Binghamton area. “She said everyone is on the street. They keep crying.”

Meanwhile, Thole grew up a Cardinals fan in Breese, Ill., 45 minutes from the home of the Cardinals. And the Breese Chamber of Commerce is selling roughly 300 subsidized tickets to members of the community to go watch Thole play on Thursday, according to the catcher, although he was unsure the exact number who will attend.

The event is being advertised as “Josh Thole Day at the Ballpark.” Tickets and bus ride from Breese cost $35. The group will sit in section 268 at Busch Stadium. The face value of the tickets is $49.

“In any event there are going to be a lot of Illinoisans there,” Thole said.

Thole already has received multiple texts from friends, imploring him to beat the Braves this weekend. St. Louis trails Atlanta by 4 games in the wild-card race.
