Joe Nathan is a free-agent closer after the Minnesota Twins declined his option. And the Mets, well, they need to sign a free-agent closer.

And Nathan said he would obviously consider the Mets.

"We're definitely not counting any teams out. But obviously, the Mets are going to be on my radar," Nathan told Newsday on Saturday at Stony Brook University. "It's a team I followed growing up around this area. That would be exciting.''

Nathan was at his alma mater for the dedication of Joe Nathan Field. He donated $500,000 toward its construction.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
