Scratch off Joe Nathan

Scratch Joe Nathan off the list of potential closers, although his price tag likely was outside of what the Mets intended to spend on that position from the get-go. ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick confirms Nathan has signed a two-year deal with the Texas Rangers. SI.com suggested the salary is about $7 million annually.

Among closer candidates, Matt Capps and Frank Francisco appear to be possibilities.
