The Mets have signed Adam Loewen to a minor league deal, Baseball America reports.

A former pitcher, the 27-year-old Loewen hit .306 with 17 homers and 85 RBIs in 520 at-bats at Triple-A Las Vegas while primarily manning right field last season. He also appeared in 14 games for the Toronto Blue Jays, hitting .188 with one homer.

He last appeared in the majors as a pitcher in 2008 with the Baltimore Orioles, when the southpaw went 0-2 with an 8.02 ERA in 21 1/3 innings.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
