Oakland closer Andrew Bailey, who is from New Jersey and attended Wagner College, is intriguing to the Mets, according to the Post. However, the report adds, the A's seek young outfield help, and there is unlikely to be a match with the Mets.

Fernando Martinez's recurring health issues have eroded his status as a prospect. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is recovering from shoulder surgery. And Lucas Duda has to start in right field for the Mets, making it hard for the organization to part with him considering that would create another hole to fill.

Bailey is eligible for arbitration for the first time and not a free agent until after the 2014 season.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
