Murph likely staying

Amid speculation Daniel Murphy could be traded, a team official told ESPNNewYork.com: "Some players are more valuable to us than other clubs."

Translation: Murphy is probably staying, since he's more valuable to the team than what the Mets could command in a trade.

Murphy probably will man second base. Since Angel Pagan will not lead off all 162 games, Murphy likely will find himself atop the Mets' lineup at least on some occasions.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
