Mets sign Venezuelan LHP Almeid

The Mets have signed left-handed pitcher Adrián Almeid, Cesar Augusto Marque of the Venezuelan newspaper Lider reports.

Diario Meridiano journalist Carlos Daniel Carrasco graciously provides these additional details:

Almeid was born in Tucacas, a little town in Falcón's coast. He is 16 years old and is a left-handed pitcher. He was invited to the Red Sox's team in the Liga Paralela, where he threw 2.0 innings against Bravos de Margarita, the Venezuelan team who signed him one week ago. Today the Mets signed him for $170,000.
