Rick Ankiel re-signed with the Washington Nationals on a minor league deal, further limiting the Mets' options for a lefty-hitting backup outfielder. At this point, Kosuke Fukudome may be the only cost-effective outfielder who fits the Mets' spending threshold. Otherwise, the team might need to go with Adam Loewen or Mike Baxter for now and potentially search for an upgrade via trade or waivers during spring training.

Raul Ibanez and Johnny Damon presumably would be pricier than the Mets' inclination to spend.
