Playoffs expanding this October

MLB is set to expand the playoffs by one team in each league beginning this October, ESPN's Buster Olney writes.

The two wild-card teams in the National League would meet in the first round, with the winner joining the three division champions for the next round.

That means the Mets technically could finish in third place in the NL East and still qualify for the postseason.
