David Wright endorsed the extra playoff team in each league that is slated to begin this October. In fact, the third baseman wondered, where was it when the Mets really needed it?

“It’s about five years too late,” Wright said, alluding to the Mets’ consecutive September swoons in 2007 and ’08. “But I think it’s good for baseball. Any time you get that win-or-go-home game or mentality, I think it’s good for the players. It’s good for the fans. I’m on board.”

Under the new format, two NL wild-card teams will play a one-game playoff to earn the right to advance to a division series.
