Scott Hairston was removed from Saturday's intrasquad game after striking out looking against Chris Schwinden to end the first inning.

Hairston chatted with trainer Ray Ramirez in the dugout before proceeding to the clubhouse. Ramirez informed Terry Collins, who briefly disappeared into the clubhouse before returning to the field. Collins twice motioned to his side to indicate the area troubling Hairston -- first to bench coach Bob Geren, then to GM Sandy Alderson.

Hairston finished last season on the disabled list with an oblique strain. He re-signed for $1.1 million to serve as the backup righty-hitting outfielder. He also is the primary backup center fielder.
