Daniel Murphy will miss four to six months after being the victim of what has been labeled a dirty takeout slide at second base during Wednesday's Triple-A Buffalo game against Syracuse.
Murphy, who was playing his second game at second base for the Bisons, suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee. A team official said Murphy will not require surgery. He was examined Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
The injury is to the same ligament that Murphy sprained during the final week of spring training.
