Multiple scouts tell ESPNNewYork.com the Mets have not been searching for a lefty-hitting backup outfielder, signaling Adam Loewen or Mike Baxter likely will make the Opening Day roster. Part of the issue, the sources said, is that Mets officials privately know the team has too many deficiencies, so trying to upgrade in that role doesn't make much sense.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
