Satin plans to play for Israel in WBC

Josh Satin plans to represent Israel in the expanded World Baseball Classic, which will take place during spring training in 2013.

Israel will vie in a qualifier in November in Jupiter, Fla., with France, South Africa and Spain for one spot.

Satin, who is Jewish, received the invitation in a call from Brad Ausmus, who is organizing the team with Gabe Kapler and former Mets outfielder Shawn Green. Ausmus also plans to invite Ike Davis.

There are 12 automatic qualifiers, including the United States.

The other play-in sites/participants:

Canada, Czech Republic, Germany and Great Britain in Regensberg, Germany.

Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand and the Philippines in Taipei, Taiwan.

Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama and Brazil in Panama City.
