Hairston makes strides

Scott Hairston

Right Field
New York Mets

Scott Hairston looks like he will avoid the DL to open the season, barring a setback with his strained left oblique.

Hairston had four plate appearances in a minor league intraquad game against the Mets' Double-A team, which started Jeurys Familia. Hairston walked, singled, grounded out and was hit by a pitch. He even took center field for one inning, but did not have any action there.

R.A. Dickey pitched for the Triple-A team in the intrasquad game to avoid a matchup with the Atlanta Braves, whom he will face next week at Citi Field. Dickey tossed eight innings. He allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 105 pitches (70 strikes).
