Johan Santana's Grapefruit League season is over, pitching coach Dan Warthen said.

Santana's final tuneup for Opening Day should be throwing 40 pitches of batting practice in a simulated-game-type arrangement Saturday.

In five starts, the southpaw had a 3.44 ERA and allowed 17 hits and seven walks while striking out 13 in 18 1/3 innings in Grapefruit League play. His highest pitch count was 88, in his final exhibition start, so Santana's ability to go beyond 90 pitches early in the season is in doubt.
