For the first time since undergoing March 13 surgery to repair torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee, Tim Byrdak faced batters Saturday.

Pitching in a minor league game against Marlins farmhands, Byrdak allowed two runs on one hit and one walk in an inning. He threw 14 pitches.

The Mets are keeping Byrdak in minor league games so they can backdate his disabled list stint, if a trip is required, and he will only need to miss the first four games of the regular season.
