WHAT IT MEANS: The Mets are 2-0 for the first time since 2009, and have a chance to sweep their three-game season-opening series with the Braves on Sunday afternoon.
WRIGHT ON! David Wright hit the Mets' first home run of the season, in the first inning. With the count 2-1, Wright got an 87 mph fastball down the heart of the plate from Jair Jurrjens and crushed it 430 feet into the visitors' bullpen in right-center.
The third baseman, who finished 3-for-5, is now six RBIs shy of tying Darryl Strawberry's franchise record (733). Wright had just one opposite-field homer at Citi Field last season, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
THANKS, DUDE: Lucas Duda took advantage of the ballpark's new dimensions, blasting a homer to right-center that wouldn't have cleared the old wall. The right fielder also went yard to right in the seventh for his first career multi-homer game.
R.A. DID OK: R.A. Dickey went 1-3 with a 3.82 ERA in April last season. He got off to a solid start in 2012. Dickey (1-0) allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings. He walked four, struck out two and threw 94 pitches -- 58 for strikes.
Likely because of the cold weather, Dickey threw 29 fastballs. One of them cost him a shutout. He threw an 82 mph four-seamer over the plate that Martin Prado smacked into the left-field stands for a two-out, game-tying two-run shot in the fifth.
In the first inning, Dickey tagged out Michael Bourn as he was trying to score from the third on a wild pitch. Bourn, it appeared, should've been safe, but home plate umpire Eric Cooper missed the call.
WELCOME TO THE SHOW: Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-for-4 in his major league debut. He picked up his first big-league hit -- an infield single -- the fourth, against Jurrjens. He also lined a single to right in the seventh.
THOL-E TRAIN: Josh Thole kicked off the 2012 campaign with back-to-back multi-hit games. He accomplished that feat just once all of last season. Thole is hitting .571 (4-for-7).
WHAT A RELIEF! Mets relievers have combined to hurl seven scoreless innings to start the season. New closer Frank Francisco gave up a pair of hits in the ninth, but is 2-for-2 in save opportunities.
UP NEXT: Jon Niese -- fresh off signing a five-year extension -- will take the mound for his first start of the season, against lefty Mike Minor on Easter Sunday.
