With two outs in the fourth, Ruben Tejada face-planted into first base after laying down a bunt. Tejada stumbled as he approached the bag and fell awkwardly to the ground.

With his head down, he laid motionless on the dirt for a few moments before eventually coming to his feet. Justin Turner came in to pinch-run and play shortstop.

The Mets said he has a right quad strain.

With Jordany Valdespin having been sent down on Saturday, Turner was the closest thing that Terry Collins had to a backup shortstop. Turner had only played two games in his professional career at short.

If Tejada needs to be put on the DL, Ronny Cedeno (rib strain) is not an option yet because he is not eligible to come off until the middle of the week. If the Tejada needs to go on the DL, the Mets would be allowed to promote Valdespin because of the injury. If Tejada will only be out a few days, Valdespin can not be called up.

Tejada went 2-for-2 on the day. He entered hitting . 291 on the season.

We will keep you updated to the seriousness of Tejada's situation as the day progresses.
