Josh Thole is traveling to New York to be examined by Mets doctors and is not expected to be at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night. The medical staff will attempt to determine more conclusively whether Thole suffered a concussion.

Thole received a blow to the right side of his head courtesy of a jolt from ex-Met Ty Wigginton. He complained of headaches, feeling hot and dizziness after leaving the series opener following the play.

Thole suffered a concussion on June 2, 2010 while playing with Triple-A Buffalo, when he was struck with a backswing.

Assistant GM John Ricco indicated the Mets were likely to bring in a catcher from Buffalo. A new seven-day DL is available for concussed players this season, as part of the new collective bargaining agreement.

Rob Johnson would be the natural choice to be brought to Philly, at least as part of a taxi squad pending activation. He has appeared in 228 major league games with the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres, and actually caught R.A. Dickey with the American League West club. One complication with Johnson is he just returned last week from a knee sprain. Lucas May would be the alternative. May started nine games for the Kansas City Royals at catcher in September 2010.
