A week ago, Terry Collins hoped to get Ruben Tejada back from the disabled list by this weekend. Now, that's clearly not happening.

In fact, Tejada -- on the DL with a right quadriceps strain -- will remain in New York getting treatment at least through Friday before potentially returning to the Mets' Florida complex, Sandy Alderson said.

"We'll make a determination on Friday," Alderson said.

Tejada was examined Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. He had experienced tenderness in the leg muscle when he tried to run in Port St. Lucie before the weekend.

Minus Tejada, Ronny Cedeño and now Justin Turner, Omar Quintanilla had a solid Mets debut Tuesday night. Quintanilla went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored twice while manning shortstop.

"Fortunately I got a couple of good hits and we got the win," Quintanilla said. "I try to go out there and have good at-bats all the time. Baseball, it's tough. You have games like this and you've got to enjoy them."
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
