Josh Thole, who was supposed to begin a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday night as the DH, was pinch-hit for in the first inning without ever getting to the plate.

There was nothing wrong with Thole, though, Triple-A manager Wally Backman explained during an in-game interview on Bisons radio. The Major League Baseball Players' Association did not approve Thole's rehab assignment in time for him to see action Wednesday night, according to Backman.

Thole is trying to return from a concussion, which he believed was the fourth of his pro career.

Sandy Alderson indicated Tuesday the plan was for Thole to DH on Wednesday, catch Chris Young's start with the Triple-A club on Thursday morning and then be activated Friday. Obviously, that intended plan has gotten slightly sidetracked.
