The plan to activate Jason Bay from the disabled list for Tuesday's series opener in Washington has been shelved, manager Terry Collins said after Monday's 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bay intended to play the outfield for the first time in a rehab game Monday night for Class A St. Lucie. But Collins said Bay feels sick and will be unable to play in that minor league game. That, in turn, will delay Bay's activation, according to the manager.

Bay has appeared in two weekend games at DH with St. Lucie. He is 2-for-6 with a walk, sacrifice fly, steal and three strikeouts.
