LOS ANGELES -- Terry Collins does not foresee Bobby Parnell remaining in the closer's role once Frank Francisco returns from the disabled list.

Francisco is in the first season of a two-year, $12 million deal. Parnell converted his first save chance Thursday during Francisco's absence with a left oblique strain.

"When Frankie comes back, if he's throwing like he was, that's his job. That's why we brought him here," Collins said. "It would be a great scenario to have Bobby continue to pitch well. We plan on being in contention. We plan on having a lot of close games, to where all of a sudden you feel very comfortable with who is pitching the back end of that game. If Frankie has a couple of days [use] and he needs a blow, you've got Bobby who you know can do it. So it's nice to have a couple of guys on that back side that you know can do the job.

"But Frankie was pitching pretty good before he got hurt. I'd like to hopefully get him back right where he was when he gets back."
