The Mets trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday night, but scored two runs in the bottom half the frame to take two out of three from the Phillies. David Wright delivered a walk-off bloop single to right off Jonathan Papelbon to secure the 6-5 walk-off victory.

The Mets now open up a three-game series with the lowly Cubs on Friday night. Johan Santana (6-4, 2.76 ERA) makes his last start before the All-Star break. The southpaw will be opposed by Travis Wood (3-3, 3.05).

Friday’s news reports:

• Tony La Russa is pondering starting R.A. Dickey in the All-Star game. But the NL manager seems hesitant, considering that none of the catchers on his roster have ever caught Dickey’s knuckleball. There are also other candidates that are worthy of consideration as well.

“I’ve given that a lot of thought, but there is an issue about catching him and what spot to use him,” La Russa said. “His season has gotten everyone’s attention, including our staff’s and we’re talking about the best way to win the game with our personnel and how we use Dickey will be a part of that. But yes, that has been addressed and [pitching coach] Dave [Duncan] and I have talked quite a bit about it and we have a plan that we hope to implement.”

Dickey understands where La Russa is coming from, but doesn’t think he should be concerned.

“That’s a logical concern, but not one that I feel overly concerned about, because I’ve come up with new guys catching all the time,” Dickey said after giving up a career-high-tying 11 hits -- along with five runs -- over seven innings and getting a no-decision ion Thursday. “And you’re talking about a caliber of player at the All-Star Game that’s really good. All those guys are really good athletes and good catchers. I don’t anticipate them having a problem.”

Terry Collins doesn’t plan on contacting La Russa and politicking for Dickey.

“I read today what Tony had to say, and there’s some validity to it,” Collins said. “It’s not an easy pitch to catch. It’s gotta be the right combination.”

• Dickey will appear on “The David Letterman Show” next Wednesday night, according to two people familiar with his schedule.

• Andres Torres has a bad back. Collins is concerned. It is unknown at this point if Torres will need to spend time on the disabled list.

• Frank Francisco (DL, left oblique) will throw off a mound Saturday, then make at least four rehab appearances before returning to the Mets. Jason Bay will report to Port St. Lucie Friday, Collins said.

• Pedro Beato made his 2012 debut, pitching a third of an inning in relief.

• Chris Schwinden was reclaimed by the Mets, five weeks after they waived him and lost him to the Blue Jays. He was optioned to Triple-A. Chuck James tweeted that he was released. Matt Harvey joined Twitter -- @MattHarvey43.
