One week into the season, the New York Mets bullpen likely will have its first shakeup Sunday.

Left-hander Raul Valdes, a Cuban defector who impressed manager Jerry Manuel during spring training, is believed to be headed to Citi Field for the series finale against the Washington Nationals, sources told ESPNNewYork.

The corresponding move is expected to be placing right-hander Sean Green on the disabled list. According to a team source, Green has been dealing with a small tear in the rib-cage area. Green allowed a solo homer to Florida's Dan Uggla on Wednesday in his lone regular-season appearance.

Valdes had a 2.06 ERA in six Grapefruit League appearances, allowing one run and three hits while striking out four in 4 1/3 innings. He has pitched the past two seasons in the Dominican, Venezuelan and Mexican leagues.

Valdes, who is on loan from Tabasco in the Mexican League, last was with the Mets organization in 2007. He was 0-1, with a 3.68 ERA in 20 games with Double-A Binghamton that season.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
