• Jenrry Mejia appears to be getting acclimated to relief work after early struggles. Mejia stranded an inherited runner, albeit after uncorking a wild pitch, and went on to record four outs Tuesday for Triple-A Buffalo against Louisville. The performance upped his scoreless streak to 5 2/3 innings spanning his last four relief appearances.

• Wally Backman needs some help with his Buffalo rotation, but he will have to wait at least one more turn before getting Zack Wheeler from Binghamton. Wheeler is proceeding with a start for the B-Mets this afternoon at New Britain. With the promotions of Matt Harvey and Jeremy Hefner, the Bisons now have two rotation vacancies to go along with Jeurys Familia, Chris Schwinden and Collin McHugh. One hope to fill a spot is that 41-year-old Miguel Batista agrees to join the Bisons. Garrett Olson took a weekend spot start. Wheeler’s next opportunity for his Triple-A debut is Monday at Indianapolis, a pitcher-friendly ballpark.

• Left-hander C.J. Nitkowski, who had auditioned for the Mets in spring training but went unsigned at the time, joined the organization this month and made his Binghamton debut Saturday. Now a sidearmer, Nitkowski has made two scoreless relief appearances with the B-Mets, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four in two innings. His fastball resides in the mid-80s mph. Nitkowski, 39, last had pitched in Double-A in 1995, with Chattanooga in the Reds organization.

• The Mets signed former Red Sox first-round pick Craig Hansen, a St. John’s product, to a minor league deal announced Tuesday. Hansen’s contract actually keeps him possession of the organization through 2013. Hansen, a 28-year-old right-hander, last pitched professionally in 2010, in the minors with the Pirates.

• Lucas Duda is scheduled to split duty between first base and left field with Buffalo. Playing more comfortable positions should allow Duda to focus on his hitting getting back on track, team officials reason.

• Right-hander Jack Egbert, who made a May 28 relief appearance for the Mets, has been sidelined for three weeks at Buffalo with a lower-back strain that leaves him unable to fully push off the mound.

• Left-hander Chase Huchingson has been bounced to St. Lucie’s bullpen after failing to complete the first inning in consecutive starts. Kyle Allen replaces Huchingson in the Florida State League club’s rotation beginning today.

• Alonzo Harris Jr., a 39^th-round pick in 2007 out of high school in Mississippi, broke up Dunedin’s no-hit bid Friday against St. Lucie with two outs in the ninth inning. Harris stepped into the leadoff spot during Danny Muno’s 50-game suspension and has performed well in the role. Muno recently has been batting third, and has taken over at shortstop after primarily playing second base for the Florida State League club. Muno switched middle-infield positional roles with T.J. Rivera.

• Cory Mazzoni landed on the DL with Binghamton with a finger cut/blister issue that first surfaced during spring training. Mazzoni, a second-round pick last year from NC State, had consecutive scoreless seven-inning starts for the B-Mets earlier this month.

• 2011 first-round pick Brandon Nimmo is 3-for-23 in his past six games with Brooklyn and is hitting .228 for the season. Nimmo does have 26 walks, which has resulted in a .373 on-base percentage.

• B-Mets first baseman Allan Dykstra, the player acquired from the Padres for reliever Eddie Kunz at the end of spring training last year, is hitting .354 with three homers in 20 games this month after a two-and-a-half-month absence. Dykstra had suffered a fractured left forearm April 14 reaching into a runner for a throw from pitcher Darin Gorski.

• Binghamton left fielder Eric Campbell ranks second in the Eastern League with a .318 average, trailing only Akron’s Chun-Hsiu Chen (.321). Campbell has been pushed to the outfield by Dykstra’s return, and has looked sound there. While some converted infielders “short-arm” throws in the outfield, that has not been the case with Campbell, who has thrown out a pair of runners at the plate. Campbell now actually has played nearly as many pro games in left field (118) as first base (170) and third base (160). He manned third base at Boston College.
