Multiple reports indicate Gary Matthews Jr. will join the Cincinnati Reds organization on a minor league deal.

Matthews hit .190 with one RBI in 58 at-bats for the Mets. The outfielder was designated for assignment June 4.

“It’s not done yet,” assistant GM Bob Miller told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It will probably get done.”

Matthews' father, Gary Sr., is close with Reds manager Dusty Baker, the Enquirer noted.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
