PHOENIX -- Chris Young indicated his surgically repaired shoulder is fine. The issue, the right-hander added, is merely pitch location.

Young surrendered six runs in four innings Saturday and the Mets lost to the Diamondbacks, 6-3. He fell to 2-5 on the season as his ERA swelled to 4.58.

"I'm just not executing pitches," Young said. "Execution. Location. Same thing. You make pitches and I get outs. But I miss my spot and there have been some home run balls. Tonight, just on the whole, it wasn't very good execution."

"Sometimes tonight I'd miss by a lot," he added, "then I'd make a good pitch and they'd foul it off, and then I'd follow it up with two bad ones. It was just too inconsistent.

"Physically I felt good. That's what's disappointing is that I felt better than the way I pitched."

Said Terry Collins: "I haven't seen anything that would send up a red flag that his arm is bothering him or that his stuff's changing. He's the only guy that knows how he feels, and he certainly has continued to say he feels great.

"It comes down to just making better pitches probably, especially with him. He's a guy who pitches up in the strike zone anyway. When he leaves balls in the middle of the plate, certainly guys take better swings at them.

"He lives on the edge. I mean, when you're a fly-ball pitcher, you live a quarter of an inch from [bats meeting] the middle of the baseball. I'd like to look at the chart tomorrow, because I want to make sure he's using his changeup enough to try to get some guys off his fastball a little bit."
