PHOENIX -- A day after Terry Collins kept reporters in suspense about a mystery tidbit of bad news, the issue -- a non-issue, really -- slowly revealed itself.

Asked in his pregame press conference Sunday about the bad news to which he was alluding to on Saturday night, Collins initially replied: "It turned out to be nothing."

What was it?

"Nothing," the manager said.

But as reporters prepared to leave the room, Collins acknowledged a mystery player had kicked his helmet during Saturday's game, and there were initial fears the Met broke his toe.

"He's fine," Collins said. "There was good news."

The mystery player?

Jordany Valdespin acknowledged to ESPNNewYork.com it was him. He was just frustrated after a groundout, he said. Valdespin departed on a double-switch in the fifth.
