PHOENIX -- Although David Wright went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, two walks and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-1 win against the Diamondbacks, Terry Collins senses the third baseman needs a day off.

Wright had gone 1-for-12 through the first three games of the series. And he has started every Mets game since May 19.

With the Mets facing southpaws Monday (Madison Bumgarner) and Thursday (Barry Zito) in San Francisco, it stands to reason Justin Turner could get a start at third base either Tuesday or Wednesday. Collins has been searching for opportunities for Turner to get in the lineup anyway.

Wright said Collins has not yet broached the subject with him of which day he might sit.

"He's tired," Collins said. "Don't let him kid you. He's a gamer. He needs a break. He's going to get a break here in the next few days. But he's a warrior. And he knows we need him. He knows he needs to be in there. He's the guy that's running this offensive team. He knows that he's got to play, so he plays."
