SYRACUSE 4, BUFFALO 3: The Chiefs used a three-run outburst in the fifth to open their first lead of the game, and held on down the stretch. With the loss, Buffalo is seven games back of Scranton in the wild-card race. The fifth was the fateful inning that doomed the Herd and starting pitcher Collin McHugh, and the damage started quickly with a leadoff double by Brett Carroll. The problematic big inning reared its ugly head three batters later, when Mark Teahen ripped an RBI triple that scored two. Next up, Carlos Rivero brought Teahen home with a single. Just like that, a 1-0 Buffalo lead had turned into a 3-1 Syracuse advantage. The Bisons trailed 4-1, but battled back with two runs in the seventh. Matt den Dekker singled, and Valentino Pascucci singled him home two batters later -- with a Mike Nickeas single in between. After Pascucci drove in the run that cut the Chiefs' lead to 4-2, Fred Lewis drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Two batters later, Lucas Duda took advantage with a single that scored Nickeas, pulling Buffalo within a run. With one out, the bases were still loaded, but the Bisons could not come through with the tying run. Zach Lutz was called out on strikes and Adam Loewen grounded out. Box

BINGHAMTON 9, NEW BRITAIN 8
NEW BRITAIN 8, BINGHAMTON 1:Trailing by two in the seventh in Game 1, the B-Mets started their late rally with two walks. A single by Dustin Martin against Jose Gonzalez brought home pinch-runner Pedro Zapata and cut the deficit to one. Reliever Dakota Watts entered and induced Wilfredo Tovar to ground out, but a botched fielder’s choice allowed everyone to reach safely. With the bases loaded and one out, Juan Centeno sent a chopper to second. Nate Hanson flipped to James Beresford for one, but his relay to first was late. Raul Reyes scored easily from third to tie the score. Martin, running from contact, scored from second to give Binghamton their fourth walk-off win of the season. The B-Mets had fallen into an early deficit after the Rock Cats put up a five-run second against starter Cory Mazzoni. Binghamton started its comeback in the third on a two-run homer by Reese Havens. The B-Mets added two more in the fifth, on an RBI groundout by Centeno and a two-out RBI single by Wilmer Flores. After the Rock Cats plated another run in the sixth, the B-Mets struck back and tied the score with a pair of scores. Centeno delivered another run-scoring groundout and Juan Lagares knotted the score at 6 with an RBI single. Mazzoni survived six innings. He allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Adam Kolarek took over in the seventh and failed to preserve the tie. Kolarek (2-0) was taken off the hook and earned his second win of the season thanks to Binghamton’s three-run seventh. The B-Mets failed to carry the magic into the nightcap. They were held to two hits and sent one over the minimum to the plate. Francisco Pena provided the only offense with a solo homer in the sixth. The Rock Cats tagged B-Mets starter Gonzalez Germen for six runs on six hits over five innings. Oswaldo Arcia delivered the game-sealing blow with a grand slam in New Britain’s five-run fifth. ST. LUCIE 9, PALM BEACH 1: Rafael Montero pitched 7 2/3 no-hit innings before being removed with his pitch count at 110 and St. Lucie lost the no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the ninth. Montero walked three and struck out five while lowering his ERA to 2.13. Alonzo Harris Jr. led the charge with a 4-for-4 night with three RBIs and two runs scored. Richard Lucas added two RBIs, while Daniel Muno, T.J. Rivera and Blake Forsythe each added one. Box

KINGSPORT 8, BRISTOL 3: Kingsport jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings. The K-Mets scored two in the first inning, on a double by Tomas Nido and asingle by Maikis De La Cruz. In the third, Kingsport scored four as Anthony Chavez cleared the bases with a triple and Joe Tuschak notched a sacrifice fly. The support made a winner of Persio Reyes, who gave up three runs in five innings. Box

BROOKLYN 1, LOWELL 0: Gabriel Ynoa led the Cyclones to their seventh shutout victory of the year as they topped the Lowell Spinners 1-0. Ynoa had his longest outing of the year, tossing 7.0 innings without allowing a run, giving up three hits and striking out eight batters while walking none. Paul Sewald came out of the bullpen and was perfect for two innings to close out the game and collect his third save of the year. Brooklyn pitchers have now allowed just two runs in their last five games. In the fourth inning with one out, Jayce Boyd came up and crushed a hanging curveball over the left field wall for his second professional home run. This would be the lone run of the game as the Cyclones won the first of a three game series 1-0.Paul Sewald pitched the eighth and ninth inning and continued his dominance over the New York-Penn League as he has yet to allow a run in his professional career. This was the 11th game of the season for Sewald, totaling 19.2 innings surrendering only 12 hits and striking out 21 batters. Box
