Pedro Beato is being sent to the Red Sox to complete the deal for catcher Kelly Shoppach.

Beato had a 10.38 ERA in 4 1/3 innings at the major league level this season, and was demoted to Buffalo after a July 23 appearance in which he surrendered four runs in a six-run 10th inning against the Nationals at Citi Field.

Shoppach is a free agent at the end of the year, which demonstrates the low regard the Mets had for Beato and/or the organization's intent to re-sign Shoappach.

Beato, a Rule 5 pick from the Orioles in December 2010, was 4-4 with a 4.14 ERA in 24 appearances (one start) in Triple-A this season.
