Santana shut down for season

Johan Santana is being shut down for the season with lower back inflammation. Doctors have not recommended surgery, Sandy Alderson said. There is not an issue with Santana's shoulder or ankle, the GM maintained.

Santana had an MRI Tuesday. He has been placed on the DL. Collin McHugh will make the start tomorrow against the Rockies.
