Mets catcher Kelly Shoppach says rookie right-hander Matt Harvey reminds him of Kerry Wood.

“He just gets after it,” said Shoppach, citing Harvey’s demeanor and composure on the mound.

Harvey sure got after it despite picking up a no-decision in Wednesday night’s 5-2 loss to the Rockies. In just his sixth major league start, the 23-year-old allowed one run on three hits and struck out nine in six innings.

Harvey’s 43 strikeouts in his first six MLB games are the most in franchise history. Nolan Ryan had 42, though one of his games was in relief.

“I’m extremely impressed with the way he handled himself. He had electric stuff tonight,” manager Terry Collins said.

Harvey struck out five of the first six batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. Still, he was upset at himself for not getting deep into the game because he threw 102 pitches.

“Obviously, I wanted to go seven innings and looking at my pitch count creeping over 100 after six innings is not ideal,” Harvey said. “I understood their decision to take me out and I was kind of beating myself up over it because I wasn’t as economical as I was before.”

The Mets' bullpen wound up surrendering four runs.

“I’ve said it before, I feel like there’s more I could’ve done,” Harvey said. “Going eight innings and not giving up a run would’ve been nice.”

Harvey also went 2-for-2 at the plate and is batting .455 (5-for-11) on the year.

“He’s living up to, ‘I’m not just here to be one of the guys, I’m here to be the guy,’” Collins said.
