Jordany Valdespin may not even make it to Buffalo, despite officially being demoted to Triple-A before Sunday's game to clear a roster spot for Lucas Duda.

With Daniel Murphy suffering what is officially being labeled a strain in the back of his right shoulder and due to get an MRI on Monday, Valdespin could end up with the Mets for Tuesday's series opener in Philadelphia. Valdespin would be expected to rejoin the Mets if Murphy requires a DL trip, a team source told ESPNNewYork.com. More will be known after Murphy's medical exam.

Interestingly, a team source said Valdespin is supposed to primarily play second base in Triple-A through next Monday, when the Bisons' season ends. The rationale: He had been lacking work at his customary position because of all the outfield dabbling at the major league level.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
