ROCHESTER 11, BUFFALO 9: Zack Wheeler tossed a seven-inning shutout for his first Triple-A win in Game 1. Wheeler allowed three hits and two walks in the complete game. The lone run came courtesy of Matt den Dekker's sacrifice fly, which scored Adam Loewen. In Game 2, Fred Lewis launched a solo homer to open what became a four-run first. The Red Wings answered with three runs the following half-inning, which were charged to starter Dylan Owen. Consecutive walks to begin the inning set the tone. A two-out double by Matt Carson against reliever Jeff Stevens scored a pair to pull Rochester within 4-3. After Valentino Pascucci homered in the third to extend the Buffalo lead to two runs, the Wings responded with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. C.J. Nitkowski was charged with seven runs in 1 1/3 innings. Buffalo clawed back on a two-run homer from Matt Tuiasosopo in the fifth. The Bisons added two runs in the sixth thanks to another blast, this one a two-run shot by Zach Lutz that pulled Buffalo within 10-9. But the Herd couldn't complete the comeback. Box 1, Box 2

BINGHAMTON 5, PORTLAND 3: Wilfredo Tovar capped a four-hit day by driving in the game-deciding run with a single in the top of the 10th. With the score tied at 3 in the extra frame, Allan Dykstra walked against Portland reliever Michael Olmsted and was replaced by pinch-runner Juan Lagares. With one out, Dustin Martin dribbled a grounder to first. Olmsted received the toss from Travis Shaw, but failed to step on the bag. The righty followed the error by walking Juan Centeno to load the bases. Tovar then lofted a single into shallow center. Lagares scored easily from third and Martin came home as well after a misfire from center fielder Shannon Wilkerson. Brad Holt made the lead stand with a perfect bottom half. Portland left fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker had launched a 2-2 offering from Greg Peavey for his team-leading 18th homer to open the scoring. The B-Mets responded with a four-hit attack in the second against Portland starter Jeremy Kehrt. Centeno bounced into a run-scoring fielder's choice. Reese Havens gave the B-Mets the lead three batters later with an RBI single. Hazelbaker struck again in the third. With a runner aboard, he produced his second homer of the day, giving the Sea Dogs a 3-2 lead. Binghamton used another four-hit inning to tie the contest in the fourth. With runners at the corners, Havens beat out a potential double-play grounder, allowing Tovar to score. Peavey settled down and retired 14 of the final 16 batters he faced, allowing one additional hit. Jeff Kaplan (2-0) bridged the gap to the 10th by allowing one hit over two scoreless innings. Peavey allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings. Box

ROME 4, SAVANNAH 3: Down 4-2, the Gnats rallied for a run the ninth on Albert Cordero’s RBI single. Savannah had the potential tying run at second and winning run at first, but pinch-hitter Dustin Lawley struck out to end the game. The Braves had opened the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run resulting from shortstop Yucarybert De La Cruz dropping a popup in shallow left field. Rome added two runs on four singles in the top of the sixth against Savannah starter Marcos Camarena to establish a 3-0 advantage. Camarena (7-6) completed six innings, allowing three runs (two earned). The Gnats picked up two runs in the sixth. With one out, De La Cruz and Brandon Brown each singled. Gilbert Gomez then delivered a two-run double to pull the Gnats within 3-2. Rome pushed its lead back to two runs in the eighth, when William Beckwith blasted a solo homer off Gnats reliever Randy Fontanez. Box

PULASKI 6, KINGSPORT 4: Pulaski took a 4-0 lead by roughing up Kingsport starter Persio Reyes, who only lasted two innings. In the third, Kingsport got back a pair as Jeffrey Diehl tripled in a run and Joe Tuschak drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Jorge Rivero and Tomas Nido each had RBIs in the sixth as the K-Mets moved within two runs. Carlos Valdez and Luis Rengel threw seven innings of two-run ball in relief. Box

STATEN ISLAND 12, BROOKLYN 2: Cyclones starter Julian Hilario surrendered seven runs (five earned) in the first inning. Back-to-back doubles by Claudio Custodio and Fu-Lin Kuo put the Yankees on the board. Peter O’Brien then singled, before Ravel Santana reached on a fielding error by shortstop Phillip Evans to make it 2-0. Gregory Bird hit a two-run double, but was thrown out at third by second baseman Jeff Reynolds. The Yankees then plated another two runs on four consecutive hits before Hilario was pulled. Tim Peterson entered and got Custodio to ground into a force out, but Daniel Lopez scored. Peterson allowed Bird's solo homer the following inning. The Cyclones ran into more trouble in the fourth. O’Brien hit a two-out single and was plated on a single by Santana. A throwing error by Peterson allowed Santana to advance to second, and he later scored on a single from Bird to give Staten Island a 10-run advantage. Brooklyn plated two runs in the fifth, when Brandon Nimmo homered, scoring Reynolds. Peterson tossed 3 2/3 innings in relief, surrendering three earned runs. Paul Sewald gave up two runs in three innings. Box
