Scott Hairston has been claimed via the waiver process, Jon Heyman reports.

ESPNNewYork.com reported Sunday that Hairston and Andres Torres had been placed on waivers. Hairston being claimed was expected.

The claim does not necessarily mean Hairston will be traded. It means the Mets can only trade Hairston to that undisclosed team.

In fact, Ken Rosenthal reported an unidentified team did put in a claim for Hairston with no intention to trade for him -- just to block a team with a better record from having the right to trade for him.
