This was a depressing series for the Mets, one in which there was little to view from a positive nature.

The Mets have scored three runs or fewer in 10 straight home games, their longest such streak since 1988.

The team record for a single season is 11 straight games by the 1979 Mets. They also had an 11-game streak spanning the end of 1966 to the start of 1967.

Not So Niese
The Elias Sports Bureau noted that Jonathon Niese had his run of wins in four straight starts against the Braves snapped. The only pitcher in Mes history with a longer streak of consecutive wins in starts against the Braves is Tom Seaver, with six. Seaver also had two streaks of four, as did Pat Zachry and Pedro Martinez.

Lucky 13
Daniel Murphy had his 13th game with at least three hits this season. He took the team lead in three-hit games from David Wright, who has 12.

The 13 three-hit games are the most by a Mets second baseman since Edgardo Alfonzo had 14. The Mets record for three-hit games by a second baseman in a season is 17 by Felix Millan in 1973.

Dominance
Jon Rauch got two more outs without allowing a hit in Sunday’s loss. It has gone somewhat unnoticed, but Rauch is in the middle of an incredible run. Opponents are 9-for-89 against Rauch since June 12.
They have a .101/.165/.169 slashline in that span.

Among pitchers who have faced at least 75 batters in that time, Rauch has the second-lowest opponents’ batting average, slugging percentage and OPS, trailing only Huston Street of the Padres in those stats.

Chipper
In his last three games at Citi Field, Chipper Jones went 0-for-7, walking in his only plate appearance on Sunday.

Jones 0-for on Saturday marked the sixth time this season he’s started and had an 0-for against the Mets. That’s tied for his second-most 0-fors in a season (he had six in 2001), trailing only the seven he had in 2009.

Jones finished with 22 home runs against the Mets in New York. That’s tied with Hank Aaron for the most in Braves history and the third-most all-time, trailing Willie Stargell (27) and Mike Schmidt (26).

Jones’ 117 hits against the Mets in New York are tied for sixth-most all-time with Tony Gwynn and Ryne Sandberg.

McCann Can
Braves catcher Brian McCann had four hits and four RBI in Saturday’s win. He became the third catcher to have a four-hit, four-RBI game against the Mets, joining Tom Pagnozzi (1991 Cardinals) and future Met Mike Piazza (1994 Dodgers).

The Mets allowed 11 runs and 17 hits in that Saturday loss, the fourth time they’ve allowed at least that many runs and hits to the Braves at home.

Jones played in three of those games (1997, 2009, and 2012). The other game took place in 1964.
